| Commissioner Buckingham at the 20-Year Anniversary of Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home in El Paso, TX on July 18, 2025 Texans have always played a historic role in the defense of liberty, and that spirit of sacrifice is alive to this day. The freedoms we enjoy come at a cost, which is why the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) works hard every day to serve those who took an oath to serve our nation. The VLB proudly operates 10 state-of-the-art long-term care facilities and four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries (TSVC). Later this year, the VLB will hold a Grand Opening for its fifth TSVC in Lubbock. Additionally, the VLB is passionate about capturing the stories of our Texas heroes through our Voices of Veterans Oral History Program. This year, we are expanding that program to include video stories of our Veterans as they discuss their service to our great nation. The VLB also offers low-interest loans to Veterans to buy a home, land, or renovate a home. “During Texas Military Heroes Week, we come together to honor the incredible bravery and sacrifice of our Veterans. Their unwavering commitment to our nation and their selfless acts of courage inspire us all,” said Tony Dale, Executive Secretary of the VLB. “Let us take this time to recognize and celebrate the heroes among us, and to express our deepest gratitude for their service. Texas stands proud and united in our commitment to support our Veterans, today and always.” The Veteran population in Texas continues to grow, and the VLB is positioned to provide the best service possible. Texas is home to 15 military installations, including Fort Hood, Joint Base San Antonio, and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. We will continue to honor and serve our Military Members and Veterans through the VLB with more benefits than any other state. If you are a Veteran living in Texas, please contact the Texas Veterans Call Center at 1-800-252-8387 to learn more about the benefits you have earned. We stand ready to answer your questions and honor your service to our country.
