Texas Authors Museum Launches VTAP to Help Readers Find Real Texas Authors in an AI-Driven Book World

Austin, Texas – November 5, 2025 – The Texas Authors Museum & Institute of History (TAMIH) today announced the launch of the Verified Texas Author Program (VTAP), a new verification system that helps readers, bookstores, libraries, and festivals quickly identify real, human Texas authors in an era of AI-generated books and spam publishing.
VTAP provides a simple promise: when you see the VTAP mark, you’re looking at a book written by a verified Texas author, not a mass-produced AI title.
“Texas readers want the real thing—real stories from real Texans,” said B. Alan Bourgeois, founder and director of the Texas Authors Museum. “VTAP protects that relationship. It gives readers a quick way to know there is an actual Texas author behind the book they’re buying, sharing, or putting on their shelves.”
VTAP confirms three things:
  • The author is a Human Texas writer by residence, roots, or clearly Texas-connected work.
  • The book is primarily written by the author, not fully generated by AI.
  • The author’s work becomes part of the documented Texas literary record preserved by the Museum.
The program does not judge style, genre, or politics. Instead, it focuses on authorship and integrity. TAMIH’s internal review process looks for signs of bulk AI generation while allowing normal levels of editing and digital tools that many writers already use for grammar, clarity, or formatting.
“We’re not against technology,” Bourgeois said. “We’re against fraud. There’s a big difference between a real Texas author using tools responsibly and someone uploading dozens of machine-written ‘books’ and calling it a career. VTAP stands with the human creator—and with the reader who deserves honesty.”
For readers, librarians, teachers, and book clubs, the VTAP badge offers a clear signal of trust. When a book carries the VTAP mark, buyers know they are supporting a genuine Texas voice and the broader Texas literary ecosystem. VTAP will be used in Museum listings, Texas Authors Magazine features, event programs, and future Year of the Reader 2026 initiatives.
For authors, VTAP offers:
  • A verified badge that can be used on websites, social media, covers, and media kits.
  • Priority consideration for interviews, spotlights, and features through the Texas Authors Museum.
  • Stronger credibility with bookstores, festivals, and media partners who want vetted authors.
  • A place in the long-term historical record of Texas literature.
As AI-generated titles continue to flood online platforms, VTAP aims to give Texas authors a way to stand out and give Texas readers a way to confidently choose books written by real people with real stories.

Texas authors and partners can learn more about VTAP through the Texas Authors Museum’s official channels and upcoming announcements in Texas Authors Magazine.
