(MARSHALL, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Marshall campus will begin offering the Electrical Construction program in the fall of 2026. Bart Day, provost of TSTC’s Marshall campus, said the new program will be an asset to the progressing construction industry in East Texas.

“As with all our programs, Electrical Construction came out on top for regional needs for both employers and interested students,” Day said. “Prospective students were very interested in the program, and we found out that the support was there from the industry; it was a pretty easy choice.”

Lakeith Jones, the Electrical Construction program team lead at TSTC’s Waco campus, said enrollment has increased each semester in Waco, where the program was offered exclusively until the addition of the Marshall location.

He said the aging workforce was another reason to expand the program to East Texas.

“There’s a need in the industry based on the age of the people,” Jones said. “Most of them are probably five or 10 years away from retirement.”

Darrell Godfrey, an Electrical Construction instructor in Waco with 20 years of field experience, will be relocating to the Marshall campus to support the program’s development and teach courses. He said students will gain the skills needed to work safely and efficiently. They will also be eligible for their residential wireman’s license by the time they graduate, Godfrey said.

“Normally to get your residential wireman’s license, it takes two years. By going through our program, at the end of one year, you’re going to be eligible to take that test,” Godfrey said. “I wish I would have gone through a program like this.”

Chase Noble is scheduled to graduate from TSTC’s Building Construction program in the summer. Noble, who is part of the program’s first cohort in Marshall, plans to be a part of the Electrical Construction program’s first cohort.

“I would like to take Electrical Construction because I would like to continue adding skills to my toolbox and become a well-rounded craftsman one day,” Noble said.

Registration for the summer and fall semesters at TSTC is underway. For more information on TSTC, go to tstc.edu.
