Winnsboro Art Center is in Full Bloom

The small town of Winnsboro, Texas, is one of the first communities in the state designated as a Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts. That is due in large part to the Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA), which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with special events and the opening of a new Creative Learning Center. READ MORE about all the activities and the spectacular BLOOM event taking place throughout the month of April.

Pegasus Horse Rescue Takes New Flight

The Pegasus Project has rescued, rehabilitated, retrained, and re-homed hundreds of mistreated horses, donkeys, and mules since its founding in 2009. Owners Allyson and Mike DeCanio — an attorney and pilot respectively — made it their mission to nurse back to health as many neglected equines as possible, guiding them through the process of learning to trust humans again from their ranch on 95 acres between Ben Wheeler and Murchison, Texas.

While they will maintain the Pegasus presence in Texas with their core rescue programs, this summer they are moving the herd to Cerrillos, New Mexico, just minutes south of Santa Fe. READ MORE

Music Book Released By Kilgore Native

Kilgore native Hank O’Neal recently released his latest book, More Than the Music, capturing his decades-long involvement with jazz performers and supporters, including Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Eubie Blake, Allen Ginsberg, Les Paul, and Clint Eastwood.

As a New York photographer and a music producer, after a career with the CIA, O’Neal’s roots in East Texas run deep within his music-loving soul.
