AAA Texas: Gas Prices Hit 4-Year Low As Millions Prepare For Holiday Travel
The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.51 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is three cents less when compared to this day last week and is eight cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.77 per gallon while drivers in the Amarillo and Sherman-Denison areas are paying the least at $2.31 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.94, which is five cents less when compared to this day last week and eight cents less when compared to this day last year.

The holiday season is delivering an unexpected gift for drivers, as the national average and Texas statewide fuel price averages sink to the lowest price point in four years. And with millions of travelers preparing to hit the road later this month, motorists will likely benefit from paying less than they did during last year’s holiday season.

“Lower gas prices are giving Texans an early holiday gift, helping millions save money as they prepare to travel,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “The statewide average reached a four-year low this week, which is welcome news as approximately 93 percent of Texans traveling this holiday season will do so by car.”

Holiday Travel Forecast
