Tyler, Texas (November 25, 2025) — UT Health East Texas Physicians is expanding thoracic and esophageal surgical services in Tyler with the addition of Ghulam Abbas, MD.
Dr. Abbas is a board-certified, internationally recognized leader in robotic thoracic surgery who specializes in treating complex lung and esophageal diseases. His clinical interests include robotic and minimally invasive thoracic and esophageal surgery, robotic lung cancer surgery, esophageal motility and reflux disorders, mediastinal and thymic surgery, thoracic outlet syndromes, tracheal and airway surgery and chest wall reconstruction.
Dr. Abbas is a pioneer in robotic lung and esophageal surgery and has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is also a frequent invited speaker at international conferences, where he shares his expertise in advanced robotic surgical techniques.
He most recently served as president of the Society of Robotic Surgery, a global organization with more than 20,000 members. He also holds leadership positions in several professional societies and serves on the editorial boards of multiple peer-reviewed journals.
