Governor Abbott Announces Bid for Re-Election in Houston
Unveils Bold Property Tax Reform Plan
HOUSTON – Governor Greg Abbott tonight kicked off his 2026 reelection campaign and pledged to win back Harris County and defend the promise of Texas with a bold new property tax reform plan.
“Texas is not just another state. It’s our home. Our heritage. Texas is the heartbeat of this land we call America,” said Governor Abbott. “As Texans, we will defend this state with every fiber of our being. We will protect what we built, finish what we started, and lead Texas into its glorious future.”
As part of his announcement, Governor Abbott outlined a sweeping property tax reform plan to rein in skyrocketing appraisals and give Texas homeowners more control over their property taxes. He reinforced the fact that it is not the state that imposes property taxes, but rather local governments that are continually raising rates.
“It’s time to drive a stake through the heart of local property tax hikes for good,” Abbott said. “We are going to turn the tables on local taxing authorities, put the power with the people, and put an end to out-of-control property taxes in Texas.”
At the conclusion of his remarks, Governor Abbott vowed to defend Texas culture, heritage, and values from the radical, woke Democrats who want to turn Texas blue and urged Texans to join him in the fight.
“What we have in Texas is precious, but it can all be destroyed in one bad election. Make no mistake: Democrats want that election to be this election,” Abbott continued. “We are Texans, and in 2026 we will remind the whole world that the spirit of Texas will never be broken. We will win this election. We will defend this great state. We will leave our children and grandchildren a Texas that is safer, stronger, freer, and more prosperous than ever before.”
