| The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.75 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent less when compared to this day last week and is 27 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.90 per gallon while drivers in the Laredo area are paying the least at $2.51 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.13, which is two cents less when compared to this day last week and 32 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year. Fuel Prices Remain Lower Year-To-Year Compared to this time last year, Texas drivers are still seeing some savings at the pump, although year-over-year prices are inching closer. The trend is similar across much of the U.S., as gas prices remain below 2024 levels despite rising demand from summer road trips. A primary factor keeping prices somewhat in check is the cost of crude oil — the main ingredient in gasoline. Today, West Texas Intermediate crude is trading approximately $11 lower per barrel than in June 2024. However, as seasonal demand increases, fuel prices have gradually moved closer to last summer’s averages. “Even with more travelers on the road for summer vacations, fuel prices remain slightly below where they were a year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “The lower cost of crude oil has helped soften the impact of higher demand, but drivers are seeing the year-over-year gap narrow somewhat as the summer progresses.” |
