Artificial Intelligence

What to know: President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will be tasked with establishing guardrails for artificial intelligence at the federal level.

The TPPF take: AI is a tool, and must serve humanity; it must not be the other way around.

“Artificial Intelligence is a tool and like any tool some will use it with good intentions and others will use it for harm,” says TPPF’s Zach Whiting. “What we need to focus on is how we can foster innovation while respecting human dignity.”

David and Zach discuss their latest research paper, the first regulatory road map for artificial intelligence, which covers how states like Texas can responsibly regulate AI while also fostering innovation.

Better Materials

What to know: The Texas State Board of Education has adopted a new high-quality curriculum that will be available to Texas teachers.

The TPPF take: This will provide Texas public schools with free, online, high-quality instructional materials so that students can be taught on their grade level.

“Parents, students, and teachers should be thrilled to know they will have access to high-quality instructional materials that are guaranteed to be on grade level,” says TPPF’s Greg Sindelar. “Teachers will be able to spend more of their time doing the critical job of teaching and evaluating students, rather than spending their nights and weekends searching for lesson plans. And parents will get to follow along as their children learn thanks to the online resources that come with the lessons.”

No Way to Run an Election

What to know: California is still counting ballots, weeks after the election.

The TPPF take: More accurately, they’re still finding ballots.

“Democrats, particularly their critical race theory (CRT)-driven factions, view voting as a collective right rather than an individual one,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “This ideology prioritizes group identity over individual agency, arguing that elections must deliver racially and socially ‘just’ outcomes, regardless of procedural fairness.”
