JIM ‘PAPPY’ MOORE: Where in the World is MaLu Beyonce?

By Jim “Pappy” Moore

MaLu Beyonce is a woman with a compelling history and an emerging presence on the adventure and survival show Naked and Afraid. The show places two adults – one male and one female – in a jungle setting alone with no supplies except one tool for each of the two people, who do not know each other until they get to the jungle. If you have ever seen the show, you know it is gut-wrenching as they strive for survival among all manner of animals, bugs, and challenges. They have to find their own water, their own food, living in primitive conditions.

We will not talk further about the show until it has aired on the Discovery Channel with additional coverage available on Max. It will air on March 31, 2024.

Some of you may recall MaLu Beyonce writing a column that was published in the Gilmer Mirror for several years. Her column was called MaLu Moment.

I met MaLu when she and my son were working together on a TV Show on public access in Houston in the early 21st century. Her husband-to-be, Tshaw Beyonce, was also in the show. It was a hilarious show featuring a cast and skits like those seen on MAD TV, with a fake news channel as its centerpiece.

MaLu is an interesting story. MaLu’s grandfather, Bloyce Bradford, had served for the United States Army in the Korean War, where he was decorated with multiple Purple Hearts and for his injuries and his bravery in combat.

MaLu’s father is Jose Bradford, a man who is both black and Mexican, a man who served with honor in the United States military for over twenty years and retired as a high-ranking enlisted man, Sergeant First Class aka E-7. Her mother was a Korean woman. MaLu does not remember her mother because her mother abandoned MaLu when she was eleven months old. Her dad was serving in Korea at the time. Her mother did not feel she could care for her baby, so she handed MaLu over to Malu’s great aunt, Susie Bradford. It was MaLu’s great Aunt Susie who loved her, raised her, and taught her about living a righteous life.

MaLu would go on to graduate with a degree in journalism from college. Her first job after graduating college was with the PGA – Professional Golfer’s Association, where she also worked for the U.S.G.A. – the U.S. Golf Association. She did that work for six years. A vibrant, articulate, attractive woman of Black, Mexican and Korean ancestry would succeed in both television and written media.

Eventually she would become a web reporter for KLTV in Tyler. Along the way she and Tshaw would marry in 2007, and have their two children in 2012 and 2014. Caesar is the boy and age twelve. Bliss is the girl, and age ten. They are attractive, dynamic children.

What about the last name Beyonce? By birth MaLu was a Bradford, but when she married Tshaw Beyonce she became MaLu Beyonce. Many of you have likely heard of the singer Beyonce. You may know that Beyonce’s last name is Knowles. But did you know what Beyonce’s mother’s maiden name was? It was Beyonce. Mrs. Knowles named her baby girl Beyonce, and Beyonce Knowles became a superstar in music. Beyonce the singer and Tshaw Beyonce are first cousins.

MaLu Beyonce is an interesting, dynamic person. I have known her for twenty years, and she’s amazing. I can’t wait to watch her on the show “Naked and Afraid.” For those who haven’t seen it, the producers do shoot it so there’s no nudity shown. It’s really all about two people trying to live in the worst of conditions battling Mother Nature along with their own fears and doubts. Hope you get to see it!

Love reading this nice article about Lu Lu, for that is what all called her in school when was in grade school.. It refreshed my memory about Malu and her aunt Susie Bradford Ford who was a teacher at Pittsburg ISD. I was secretary at the Intermediate school… Malu was a very smart, awesome student…I knew Malu would grow up doing lots challenges….
