The word love is used frequently this time of year. We may say we love certain movie, place or music, so it doesn’t seem adequate to use the same word to describe our deep feelings for the most important people in our lives. Feeling the love we have for them, we may deepen the experience with the words compassion or commitment.
Karen Silkwood’s story — memorialized by Meryl Streep’s performance in the 1983 film Silkwood — was one of compassion for the safety of her co-workers.
