Pineywoods agricultural conference set Feb. 11 in Gilmer
Pests, weeds, beaver control among continuing education topics

The Pineywoods Continuing Education Conference will be held Feb. 11 in Gilmer. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative, 1200 W. Tyler St.

The cost is $35, payable at the door. The conference is limited to the first 60 registrants. Lunch is provided courtesy of Legacy Ag Credit.
Preregister by Feb. 4 by calling the AgriLife Extension county offices in Harrison, 903-935-8413; Cass, 903-756-5391; Upshur, 903-843-4019; Gregg, 903-236-8429; or Marion, 903-665-2421. Onsite check-in for registered participants will begin at 8 a.m.
“The counties presenting this annual program have worked diligently to provide participants with relevant and current information on key topics that affect beef cattle and forage production,” said Shaniqua Davis, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Gregg County. “This conference also allows agricultural license holders an opportunity to obtain continuing education units.”
Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available: three general, one laws and regulations, and one integrated pest management.
Topics and speakers
Experts will cover a wide range of pest management, pest control and pesticide topics. The conference topics and speakers include:
— Beaver Control for Landowners, Penny Wilkerson, Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist, Queen City.
— Integrated Pest Management for Livestock Operations, Michael Hampton, Central Life Sciences regional sales manager, Winnsboro.
— Pesticide Laws and Regulations, Mark Matocha, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental safety specialist, Bryan-College Station.
— Aquatic Weed Identification and Chemical Control, Brittany Chesser, Ph.D., aquatic vegetation management specialist, Bryan-College Station.
— Handling and Disposing of Agricultural Chemicals, Matocha.
