NE Texas Habitat’s Hope Homes Project Nears Campaign Goal

LONGVIEW (Nov. 29, 2021) — The year 2021 is quickly coming to a close and Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity is looking to finish strong with its “Building Hope Together” campaign.

According to La Juan Gordon, Chief Executive Officer for Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity, the campaign has raised 86 percent of its total goal and is looking to close the year with that final 14 percent in order to achieve the target of $638,000.

“The Hope Homes project is a big undertaking, but so is the need,” said Gordon. “Today, one in four individuals in our region live in homes that threaten their safety, are unhealthy, or create significant cost burdens. In partnership with our community, Habitat works every day to break down those barriers and provide a safe, healthy home for these individuals and families.”

As of the week of Thanksgiving, Gordon noted that the campaign has raised just over $544,000, meaning the goal of the project is just under $95,000 with a month to go.

“We realize that $638,000 is a big goal, but we are so close,” she said. “We’ve already achieved 86 percent of the goal, and I am confident that we can and will reach that goal and be able to say ‘welcome home’ to six families by the summer of 2022.”

As part of the Hope Homes project, Northeast Texas Habitat is in the process of building six homes in the region. Two of the homes have been completed with families now living in them. Two homes are well into their construction phase, and one has site work and foundation underway. One is still pending.

Funds donated to the Building Hope Together campaign will go directly to the completion of the four remaining homes in 2022.

Habitat for Humanity affiliates do not give away homes. They instead empower and strengthen communities by building simple, decent, affordable housing for low-income families and individuals. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat affiliates finance affordable loans and sell to partner families selected through nondiscriminatory policies. Habitat homeowners also invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

As of Monday, Nov. 29, there are 32 days remaining in the campaign.
