Harmony FFA members won $33,500 in scholarships at the Texas FFA State Convention held recently in Corpus Christi.
Twenty-two Harmony FFA members attended and participated in the week’s activities, which included the State Qualifying speaking, agri-science fair, proficiency and star competitions.
The highlight of the week was when Thomas Green, State FFA finalist for the State Lone Star Degree Award, won the state title for the third consecutive year.
He received a $1,000 scholarship from the Dick Walrath Educational Foundation.
Madison Spencer, Katherine Kerwin, Hannah Irwin and Kristi Shelton were recognized on stage and presented plaques as State finalists in their respective star category.
Hannah Irwin and Thomas Green were also presented plaques and $1,250 scholarships as State Proficiency Award winners.
Green won the State FFA Dairy Placement proficiency award and Miss Irvin won the State FFA Specialty Crop Placement proficiency award.
They will advance to the National FFA Proficiency competition.
Shelby O’Connor, Holly Allen and Caitlin Crone were each awarded a $10,000 Dick Walrath Scholarship.
In addition to these activities, Kalle Riner participated in the State Junior Prepared Speaking Semi-Finals and nine agri-science fair projects were exhibited.
Placing second in their division were teammates Kalle Riner and Ellisa Irvin, Katherine Kerwin and Alanna Tillery and Kylie Corbin.
Placing third were Annie Brasket and Timothy Morris.
Also participating in the State Agri-science Fair were Elise Riner, Hannah Irvin, Anna Hollis, Kristi Shelton, Meredith Elms, Mirium Areola and Allison Taff.
Taylor Cooper, Daingerfield District Officer, served the Texas FFA as a member of the State Courtesy Corp. Thomas, Green, Area VI FFA officer, assisted with the Area VI delegation throughout the convention.
The Harmony FFA Chapter was recognized as a “Gold” National FFA Chapter and will advance to the National competition.
The Harmony FFA was ranked first in the state multi-teacher division Golden Horizon Award. Also attending the convention and serving as state voting delegates were Cutter Tefteller and Cody Weems.
