Three men were killed in a one-vehicle car wreck Friday afternoon near Big Sandy.

According Department of Public Safety Cpl. Jody Hammond, who investigated, Matthew Lloyd Purdy, 19, of Water Tower Loop was westbound on Water Tower Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Taurus sedan and ran off the right side of the road. He struck a tree and the car burst into flames.

It burned completely up.

The accident scene is about 1.7 miles southeast of Big Sandy.

Purdy was killed, as were two passengers in his car, Christopher Wheat, 21, of Big Sandy and Christopher Ray Pharris, 24, of Gladewater.

The bodies were picked up by Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater. Services for Purdy and Phariss are pending with that funeral home. Services for Wheat are pending with Cunningham Funeral Home of Gladewater.
