REPRESENTING THE top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes at Gilmer High School by using grades from the fall term, 28 students received recognition at Tuesday’s Academic Awards Banquet. Fourteen seniors and 14 juniors at Gilmer High School representing the top 10 percent of their respective classes attended the annual Academic Awards Banquet Tuesday.

Business and civic leaders presented each junior with a blanket and each senior with a watch as a token of his or her achievement. The rankings were calculated based on the grades through the fall sememster of the 2009-2010 year.

Mr. and Mrs. John Dugan made the the first presentation of blankets to Shelbi Herndon and Amber Burgett and Jim Ragland of First Bank presented a watch to Carolynn Wuester. All three students then left to join their fellow members of the Gilmer High Choir at the Gilmer Civic Center for their spring concert.

Dr. Marcy Ragland made the presentation to Keaton Box, a student at Dr. Ragland’s studios.

Sarah Beth Morris and Benjamin James “B.J.” Tomlin received watches from Larry Cowan of the Gilmer National Bank.

Marie Nelson of the Upshur County A&M Club presented watches to Jacob Price and Jeremy Payne.

Lynn Gray of the Bluebonnet Literary Club honored Shelbi Gray, a senior, and Lacy Hodges, a junior.

Frank Breazeale presented a blanket to Bethany Nolan and a watch to Kade Barton from the First National Bank. Representing the U.T. Exes, Breazeale honored Sara L. Nelson.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Patterson presented a blanket to Colin Coleman.

Paul Herndon of State Farm gave Garrett Hill a watch.

Henry Troell of the Gilmer Athletic Boosters chose Shaylee Wilson and Benjamin Griffith to be their senior recipients. As a State Farm agent, Troell gave a blanket to Michael Boddie.

Twentieth Century Club member Denise Buller presented a blanket to her daughter, Morgan Buller, and Rebecca Skinner gave Jacob Johnson his watch.

Beta Sigma Phi’s Alpha Nu Epsilon’s Julie Skinner gave Kaitlyn Tackett her blanket.

Taylor Jones received the Travis Hough Memorial Blanket from principal Greg Watson.

Austin Bank’s Debbie Haddock made the presentations to Michaela Noble and Carlos Sanchez, while County Judge Dean Fowler gave a watch to Daniel Arrington.

From Etex Communications, L.P. Samantha Jackson and Rebecca Nolen received blankets.

Roy Brown presented the Economy Auto Parts award to Jacob Plant before he was joined by his wife and son, Ken Brown, in honoring Dalton Brown.
