Scott Glover will be offering rides in his Stearman biplane to kids 10-17. Adults can ride, too, for a small donation to the Fly-In Fund. This event will also feature a BBQ lunch for spectators as a fundraiser for the Marion County Airport Volunteers. Plate lunch is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
The An-2 is a single-engine biplane designed in the USSR beginning in 1946. The plane’s first flight took place on August 31, 1947. The plane was produced for 45 years and proved an immensely useful aircraft. It is still in service all over the world today.
The Piper J-3 Cub is a small, simple, light aircraft that was built between 1937 and 1947. With tandem seating, it was intended for flight training but became one of the most popular and best-known light aircraft of all time. The Cub’s simplicity and affordability make it a very popular plane. Its standard yellow paint has come to be known as “Cub Yellow”.
The Stearman is a biplane built in the United States during the 1930’s and 1940’s as a military trainer aircraft and used throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civilian market. In the immediate post-war years, they became popular as crop dusters and as sports planes.
Don’t miss seeing these great planes – a blast from the past. The Fly-In offers a wonderful opportunity for FREE family entertainment.
The Cypress River Airport is located at 270 Cypress River Airport Road, in Jefferson Texas. From Hwy 59, turn North on to FM 2208 for 1 mile; turn right on to FM 134 South for 1.8 miles. Airport will be on the left.
