Upshur County Commissioners, at their meeting Friday, approved a request from District Attorney Billy Byrd to provide funds for a matching grant for the District Attorney’s Family Violence Intervention Grant.

The county will provide $7,347, so the DA can apply for a $43,000 grant.

The funds will be used to hire another assistant district attorney.

Commissioners changed the hours the courthouse will be open back to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., effective immediately.

Some weeks ago, the commissioners had okayed a request by County Clerk Peggy LaGrone to let her office be often from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the convenience of land men.

Commissioners also approved the appointment of Amanda Traywick to the Upshur County Child Welfare Board.

Merganzer Road and Redhead Road were accepted into the county road system.

Upshur County Retired School Employees Association presented a symbolic check for $198,997 to the court, representing the volunteer service hours the members of the association contributed to the community.
