“I decided to direct Almost, Maine because it’s such a wonderful treat for the actors to create and for the audience to discover. The play is all about love—the magic and wonder of its coming and the sadness and melancholy of its passing. In its own way, this good and gentle play speaks to us all…it personifies what happens to your heart when the stars begin to fall,” Douglas Hoppock, Director of Almost, Maine, said.

The play, written by John Cariani, begins on a cold, clear moonless Friday night in the middle of winter. All is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, residents of Almost find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected, and often hilarious, ways.

Knees are bruised; hearts are broken. Love is lost, found and confounded. But the bruises heal and the hearts mend—almost-in what has been described as a “comic, romantic roundelay” by the Wall Street Journal, “a wooly midwinter night’s dream” by The Dallas Observer, “a sweet-natured valentine to fools and idioms” by The Los Angeles Times. Almost, Maine inventively explores the mysteries of the human heart, touching the audiences with laughter, heartbreak and hope.

The cast for Almost, Maine includes Naomi Taylor, Stephen Graham and Joel Burkhalter of Mount Pleasant; Lance Harris and Josh Wilcox of Pittsburg; Holly McCoy, Eric Staples and Ashley Rae Simpson of Daingerfield; Angel Horn of Mineola; Gabrielle Silvey of Winnsboro; Johnny Vannier of Bonham and Lydia Caldwell of Omaha. Whitney Dawson of Mount Pleasant is stage manager.
