Aug. 28 @ Beeville Jones, won 34-10
Sophomore running back Trent Jackson scored two touchdowns in the Gobblers season opening win, finishing with 83 yards on 13 carries. Last season, Jackson broke Cuero’s Robert Strait’s freshman rushing record with 1,436 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Sep. 4 @ Rio Hondo, won 47-7
Trent Jackson ran for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 13 carries, as the Gobblers rolled up 509 total offensive yards. The Cuero defense limited Rio Hondo to 142 total yards.
Sep. 11 Devine, won 33-8
Despite a pouring rain, Cuero quarterback Tyler Arndt went to the air, passing for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Sep. 18 @ Bay City, won 38-10
Trent Jackson ran for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries as the Gobblers rolled over class 4A Bay City. Quarterback Tyler Arndt had 137 yards and a touchdown passing and even scored a touchdown on a 15 yard reception.
Sep. 25 La Vernia, won 41-16
Trailing 16-13 early in the second half, the Gobblers reached into their bag of tricks and pulled out a flea flicker for a 66-yard touchdown from Tyler Arndt to Aaron Bell to take a 20-16 lead. Cuero never looked back, scoring 28 unanswered points in the second half for the win.
Oct. 9 @ Yoakum, won 26-23
The Gobblers never led in the 99th meeting of the two district rivals until Tyler Arndt threw his second touchdown pass to Ryan Barrientez with only 48 seconds left in the game. Trent Jackson led the Cuero ground game with 247 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Oct. 16 Palacios, won 47-17
Cuero quarterback Tyler Arndt threw 5 touchdown passes to 4 different receivers, and Trent Jackson rushed for 206 yards and another score as the Gobblers rolled up 475 total yards in a win against Palacios.
Oct. 23 @ Goliad, won 42-14
Goliad scored the first and last touchdown, but the Gobblers scored 6 touchdowns in between for a win on the road in Goliad. Trent Jackson scored 3 touchdowns and picked up 183 yards rushing to lead Cuero to 419 yards of total offense.
Oct. 30 @ Gonzales, won 68-13
The Gobblers scored 26 points in the first quarter, and then topped that with 35 points in the second quarter in a blow-out win on the road. Trent Jackson led Cuero with 291 yards and 5 touchdowns on only 14 carries, while the Gobblers’ Andrew Thibodeaux ran for 4 touchdowns on only 5 carries.
Nov. 6 Edna, won 48-32
The Gobblers extended their home and district winning streaks to 33 games each in the battle against Edna, as Cuero finished the regular season unbeaten for the 18th time in school history. The two teams racked up 957 yards of total offense.
Nov. 13 San Antonio Sam Houston @ Seguin, won 46-12
The Gobblers picked of Sam Houston quarterback Richard DeLong 4 times to help turn a 12-12 first quarter tie into a blowout Cuero win in the first round of the playoffs. Trent Jackson led the way for Cuero with 190 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing.
Nov. 20 Sealy @ San Marcos, won 53-36
Cuero rolled up an impressive 625 yards of total offense in their second round win against tradition-rich Sealy. The Gobblers had 321 yards on the ground and 304 yards through the air to overcome Sealy’s 21-7 first quarter lead. Trent Jackson had 283 yards and 4 touchdowns on 36 carries.
Nov. 27 Ingleside @ San Antonio, won 47-28
With Ingleside keying on Trent Jackson, Cuero’s Andrew Thibodeaux rushed for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 8 carries. Jackson finished with 87 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 carries as the Gobblers advanced to the state semifinals.
