The Kilgore College Fire Academy will dedicate a monument memorial Thursday, Sept. 10, in honor of the two City of Kilgore firemen who lost their lives on campus last January.
The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. in the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center parking lot in Kilgore.
The monument, mounted in front of the Woodruff building flag pole, has the two firefighters’ names inscribed into the stone.
The KC Student Nurses Association donated the flag pole and the KC Fire Academy donated the monument in honor of the two former KC Fire Academy students, Cory Galloway (KCFA Class No. 61) of Grand Saline and Kyle Perkins (KCFA Class No. 54) of Kilgore.
Galloway and Perkins died during a routine training exercise by the City of Kilgore Fire Department last January on the KC campus.
The City of Kilgore Fire Department’s “Company B” will be in attendance which was Galloway’s and Perkins’ company, along with students of the 75th KC Fire Academy which began classes Sept. 8.
Also speaking at the ceremony will be Dennis Gage, Kilgore Fire Department’s operations chief; Mike Earley, KC’s dean of public services; and Dr. Gerald Stanglin, KC’s vice president of instruction.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the KC Fire Academy, which began in 1989.
