Gilmer police have made several arrests recently.
Gilmer Police also arrested Kitzie Lee Hawkins, 29, of Gilmer for aggravated robbery and evading arrest on Thursday.
Ms. Hawkins allegedly stole more than $60 worth of groceries from the Brookshire’s grocery store.
When store managers attempted to stop Ms. Hawkins, she attempted to assault one manager with her vehicle and then fled on foot.
The suspect was chased on foot by the store manager until Gilmer Police Officers Monty Montgomery and Larry Sewell apprehended her at the McDonalds parking lot as she attempted to get into a customers vehicle at the drive-thru window. Subsequent to her arrest, Ms. Hawkins was found to have an outstanding burglary of a habitation warrant out of Upshur County.
Ms. Hawkins is currently being held on these charges at the Upshur County jail.
On July 25, Gilmer Police Sgt. Marc Rider arrested Austin Michael Edwards, 21, of Gilmer. Edwards was charged with public intoxication after he was found passed out in his vehicle in a local business parking lot.
On July 26, Officer Monty Montgomery responded to a suspicious persons call when he made contact with Coy Earl Pickett. Pickett, 21, was subsequently arrested for possession of dangerous drugs.
Gilmer Police Department had 96 calls for service from July 25 to July 30. Five adults were arrested for various offenses during this period. Among the calls, officers responded to:

• 10 alarm calls
• 7 animal related calls
• 9 assist calls
• 1 assisted other agencies
• 2 disturbance calls including calls related to domestic violence
• 1 escorts
• 1 miscellaneous incident
• 1 Open door or window
• 1suspicious persons
• 3 suspicious vehicles
• 6welfare concerns
• 3 assaults
• 3 criminal mischief
• 1 Forgery/ Fraud
• 1 Robbery
• 1 thefts
• 8 other offenses
• 18 traffic citations were issued
• 10 warning citations were issued
The next Police Explorers meeting will be held at the Gilmer Police Department on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m.
