Harmony FFA brought home more than $29,000 in scholarships from the Texas FFA State Convention which was recently held in Dallas.
Receiving the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship of $15,000 was Lacey Sims.
Ashley Dugan received the $10,000 Walrath Education Foundation Scholarship.
Winning the Ryan Mott Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 was Erica Child.
Kristi Shelton, and Thomas Green were state finalists for the Star Chapter Degree.
Thomas Green won his division and was named the State Star Chapter Farmer in the placement division.
Along with winning the title, he also won a $1,000 Walrath Education Foundation Scholarship.
Taylor Cooper was recognized as a state finalist in the Star Greenhand Agriscience division.
Lacey Sims, Travis Burks, Hannah Irvin and Taylor Cooper competed in the State Agriscience Fair.
Taylor Cooper won his division and received a $1,000 scholarship. His project will advance to the National FFA Agriscience Fair competition, which will be held in Indianapolis next fall.
Thomas Green won the Texas FFA Dairy Production Proficiency Award and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and $200 cash.
His application will also advance to the National competition to compete for additional scholarships.
Lockie Breeding and Jaclyn Skinner competed in the State speaking contests.
Jaclyn Skinner will receive a $500 scholarship for winning the area Soil and Water Stewardship competition.
At the Texas FFA State Rodeo, Caroline Spencer competed in the barrel racing event.
Thomas Green served with his fellow district officers as a member of the State Courtesy Corp and Ahyza Williams represented Area VI as an Area Officer.
The Harmony FFA was also honored with two awards.
In the multiple-teacher division of the Golden Horizon Award, Harmony FFA received a gold rating and was ranked second on the state level.
The National Chapter award program recognized the Harmony FFA as one of the top five chapters in Texas. It received fourth place and a 3-star rating.
The Harmony FFA’s National Chapter Application will now advance to the National competition.
The Harmony FFA advisors and agricultural science instructors are Rachelle and Cody Darby and Landon Mathison.
