Several farm-to-market roads in Upshur and Camp Counties will be widened during the next couple of years, according to plans approved in June by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“There will be about 35 miles of farm-to-market roads involved in the project. The roadways will be widened to at least 24 feet,” said Roger Ledbetter, area engineer for TxDOT in Mt. Pleasant.
Highways scheduled for the construction work include:
• Upshur, FM 593 from U.S. 271 to FM 2796, 7 miles.
• Upshur, FM 2796 from FM 593 to FM 557, 5.7 miles.
• Upshur, FM 2263 from Hwy. 155 to FM 593, 6.2 miles.
• Upshur, FM 2685 from Hwy. 155 to 1.2 miles north of U.S. 80, 9.4 miles.
• Camp, FM 2254 from FM 993 to FM 557, 6.4 miles.
Sammy Gist Enterprises Inc. of Clarksville was awarded the contract for the projects with a low bid of $3 million.
Work on the projects should begin in August of this year and take about 26 months to complete, Ledbetter said.
