Some unusual incidents have kept Gilmer police busy recently.

On Thursday, June 18, they investigated a burglary of a habitation in Pine Acres in which a man’s shirt and three items of lingerie were taken.

The shirt was valued at $35. Also taken were a black bustier, valued at $75, a black spaghetti strap gown valued at $75, and a red spaghetti strap gown, also valued at $75.

The male suspect in the burglary has the same last name as the woman living in the residence.

Officer J.W. Lowry answered a call to Gates Apartments Thursday regarding an “aggressive animal.” The aggressive animal turned out to be a snake, and its life of crime soon came to an end.

Also on Thursday, Officer Casey Driggers answered a call to a house on Parkway Lane about a dead cat. Upon arrival, he learned the cat was not dead, but was severely injured. He contacted a neighbor, who said that it was not her cat, but if they could catch it and put in a carrier, she would take it to a veterinarian to be euthanized.

On June 16, a man was arrested for failing to wear a seat belt.

There were also numerous verbal disturbance and suspicious person calls, several arrest warrants executed and several incidents of officers assisting other agencies, including other lawmen, emergency medical service providers and fire fighters.
