DALLAS – Jan. 21, 2021) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Southwest Center for Pediatric Environmental Health and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso will host virtual disaster recovery workshops. The last two sessions, which are part of a four-part series, will take place on Jan. 23, 2021, at 11 a.m. (CT) and Feb. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. (CT).

The Jan. 23, workshop will focus on children’s emotional health and natural disasters. Children are especially vulnerable to environmental hazards. They eat, drink, and breathe more than adults on a pound for pound basis. Children are in a critical period of development when toxic exposures can have profound negative effects, and their exploratory behavior often places them in direct contact with materials that adults would avoid. The Feb. 6, event will feature a panel of community experts to discuss pediatric environmental health and natural disasters. The group will offer guidance on prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment of environmentally related health effects from preconception through young adulthood. They will also discuss how environmental hazards effect the health of children and reproductive-age adults in a variety of ways. These sessions are for parents, teachers, health care providers, maintenance staff and community members. A certificate of attendance will be given to every registered participant who attends the entire session.  The certificate of attendance may be used for professional development.
