East Texas Piney Woods residents as well as those residing in surrounding towns and communities should mark their calendars for Saturday, September 29, and plan to attend the Mims Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser all-day celebration.

Volunteer firefighters, along with the volunteer EMTs and ambulance service, these “Angels In Disguise” and the volunteer fire departments they represent are CONSTANTLY in need of our help to restore lost equipment and depleted funds that will enable them to respond so admirably as they have in the past.

The doors open at 10:00 AM and Admission is FREE.

As usual there will be games, bounce houses, popcorn and hot dogs for the kids and a silent and live auction for items donated by local businesses and citizens. Live band music provided by the “Country Classic” will keep you entertained as you support this community effort!

As always, for a mere $10.00 donation you will be served delicious brisket and sausage with all the trimmings including dessert,  prepared by the Mims Ladies Auxillary along with community volunteers beginning at noon. As an added bonus, the auxillary ladies will also conduct a bake sale and will offer a variety of delicious items for your sweet tooth!! A mere $15.00 donation will even get you a Community Cookbook with local recipes that will make you hungry just by reading it!!!

This year’s grand prize raffle includes the traditional 6’ X 10’ trailer sporting a 12,000 BTU Hybrid Home Generator that will burn both regular gasoline as well as propane, to be given away to some lucky resident who holds the winning $5.00 ticket! Tickets may be purchased at the event!!

All proceeds go to the Mims Volunteer Fire Department in order to enable them to continue to serve East Texas and surrounding communities!

These volunteer fire and emergency personnel provide an invaluable service to local communities across the country and if you have ever had the misfortune of having to call on them, you will agree that these professionally trained and caring friends and neighbors are truly “Angels In Disguise” when they arrive on the scene!!So make your plans to come out to the New Mims VFD Fire Station on the north shore of Lake O’ The Pines located at 9902 U.S. Highway 729 and Victory School Road to enjoy the festivities.
