Haunted Places and Ghost Sightings Across Texas, a new book by Kari Lynn Collins, award-winning writer at the Iowa Park Leader, and Kevin Slimp, noted author and publisher from Knoxville, Tennessee, is now available on Amazon.com, and will be available in locations across Texas soon.
The book is a collection of stories of haunted places and ghosts from the pages of Texas Newspapers and the pens of Texas paranormal experts.
Kari Lynn Collins of Texas is an award-winning humor columnist and lifelong newspaper veteran, whose hobby happens to be ghost hunting. Kari grew up in a newspaper family in Texas and remains at the family-owned weekly newspaper, the Iowa Park Leader.
I thought this book would be a great way to showcase one of the many services newspapers offer in their communities. We cover more than city council, school board meetings and sports. We carry stories about things most people dont always discuss openly in their communities that sometimes have interesting historical value, Collins said. My goal was to underscore the vital role these newspapers play in their communities.
Kevin Slimp is a well-known author with a long history in the newspaper business. His 2017 book, Ghostly Places: A collection of chilling stories and haunted places in Tennessee, was popular across his home state and gave Kari Collins the idea for a similar book in Texas.
I was surprised by the response to Ghostly Places, Slimp said. I did it as a fundraiser for a nonprofit newspaper association and it took off! I was invited to speak at several conferences and colleges by groups who had an interest in the subject matter. I can only imagine, with Texas being so large, the response we will get to Haunted Places and Ghost Stories Across Texas. I have already been invited to speak at a Texas paranormal conference.
Together, Kari and Kevin combined their mutual passion for print journalism and Karis enthusiasm for the paranormal, and Haunted Places and Ghost Stories Across Texas was born.
Readers will shiver reading the stories of Camp Ford, Spirits at the Opera House, The Ghost of Wink Lake, A Halloween Tale, The Secrets of Stamford Inn, The Cherokee Trace Hauntings and Creatures, Legend of Pig Man, The Strange Flying Ship, Iowa Park Spirits, Haunted Jefferson, Measuring the Creep Factor, Inside the Mount House, Seeking the Supernatural, Chief Bowles Memorial, Burkeville Cemetery Haunting, The Browndell Haunting, Haunted Limes at Jefferson Hotel, Bumps in the Bathroom, Austins Driskill Hotel, The Crystal Rock Shop, Funeral Home Haunting, Haunted El Paso and more. One final word of advice: Dont read Haunted Places alone.
