Every year, a group of western Upshur County family and community researchers come together to share pictures, documents, newspaper clippings, research and a lot of tall tales. This day is held to honor the first settlers of western Upshur County and the difficulties they faced, in their everyday lives, to carve the communities that many of their descendants still call home. So, if your roots run deep in western Upshur County, or you just love local history, be sure to mark your calendars for this event. If you have western Upshur County research to share, you are encouraged to bring a table to set up.

This year, stage activities will include the Puppets for Jesus Ministry and the Moore Brothers, who are old time gospel singers. The Outlaw Gunfighting Group will set up a day camp and do skits throughout the day. Add to this, speakers on the history of the area and old time skilled crafters, for a day filled with fun.

Weather permitting, this FREE event will be held at the old Blackstone Ridge Homestead, Saturday, April 28th. Activities will start about 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome, so bring a chair and spend the day going through research and enjoying the activities.

The Blackstone Ridge Homestead is located on FM 49, nine miles west of Gilmer, between the Hopewell and Little Mound churches.
