Longview’s annual Dalton Days will have extra fire power this year in downtown Longview on Fredonia Street. Dalton Days will kick off at 10:00 a.m. and go to 3:00 p.m. on April 7th. This year’s event features four hair raising Dalton Gang Bank Robbery reenactments.
The Gregg County Historical Museum presents Dalton Days each year, with reenactments of the May 23, 1894, robbery of the First National Bank by Bill Dalton and three members of his gang. Dalton Days was first staged in Longview in 1994, when the museum held its first re-enactment of the shootout that left three people dead, including one of the gang members. About 200 shots were fired during one of the Old West’s biggest shootouts.
Dalton Days showcases Longview’s history and the bravery of its residents, who rallied to help after the first shots were fired. The city of Longview’ Cultural Activities Advisory Commission provides a grant that helps the museum produce the event each year.
Dalton Days includes a variety of activities for the entire family. Some of the activities include a petting zoo, giant games, craft vendors, face painting, a chuck wagon cooking demonstration, a blacksmith and wonderful food vendors including a saloon with root beer from the Oil Horse Brewery. There will be a quick draw demonstration by the reenactors for the kids at noon.
