Halloween is over...can Christmas be far behind? Christmas comes to the Clothes Closet this week. The annual Christmas sale and the toy sale will begin this week. Both sales will continue until Christmas. The resale store, a mission operated by the First United Methodist Church, receives donations from people all over Upshur County and beyond. Many of these donations include Christmas items and toys.

Volunteers at the Clothes Closet store Christmas items and toys throughout the year until the annual sales begin. This year, the toy sale will begin at the same time as the Christmas sale. Customers need not worry that they will be seeing the same old stuff all month long. Additional items will be added to the inventory weekly.

In the Christmas department, the store will offer artificial Christmas trees (some pre-lit), wreaths, wrapping paper, ribbon, ornaments, lights, and home decor. Christmas clothing will include ugly sweaters. At the Clothes Closet, if you can't find a sweater ugly enough, you can always buy a nice sweater and all the things you'll need to turn it into an ugly sweater. There will also be plenty of pretty sweaters, shirts, scrubs, leggings, and socks

Toys are available for all age groups and include many electronic toys. There are games, puzzles, riding toys, and more. Later this month, watch for the opening of SugarPlum Pete's Doll Adoption Center. SugarPlum Pete loves dolls. She spends many hours rescuing and restoring well-loved dolls that have been donated to the Clothes Closet. Hundreds of baby dolls will be up for adoption just in time for Christmas. You'll also find Dora, Baby Alive, Barbie, Ken, GI Joe and more at the Clothes Closet.

The money raised by these sales (as well as the money raised by weekly sales at the Clothes Closest) is donated to various community organizations, including The Upshur County Shares Food Bank, the Upshur County Library, the Historic Upshur Museum, and organizations that serve children in Upshur County.
