The state meeting of the Texas Extension Education Association was held recently at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls, Texas.

The following ladies participated: Joyce Raabe, Annette Johnson and Mary Pinkston were voting delegates, while the rest attended educational workshops to gather information to bring back to the county. This included JoAnn Bilbrey, Pat Bynum, Velma Franklin, Lesa Jackson, Gwen Jewett, Linda Steger, Joan Warren, and county Extension Agent Julie York.

Carol Tejcek and Mary Pinkston of the Glenwood TEEA group represented Upshur County in the highly competitive state-level Cultural Arts contest. This contest was designed to establish a broader understanding and awareness of the arts, as well as envision individual growth, inspiration, and enrichment through participation in varied “forms of art.”

Both of Carol’s entries received 3rd place in Paper and Recycled Items. She crocheted a set of a matching hat and purse using WalMart bags and used cattle feed sacs to weave a basket. Mary decorated a denim vest which also advanced to state from district competition, but did not place at state. Congratulations to both of these competitors for representing Upshur County TEEA so well!

We look forward to hearing presentations of the state educational programs here in Upshur County in 2018 on hearing loss, the importance of a good night’s rest, controlling aging, and genealogy.
