The Harmony High School Choir returned from the Texas State Solo/Ensemble Contest held at Texas State University in San Marcos with six gold medals and five silver medals, along with a First Division rating on a madrigal, earning 10 gold ensemble medals.

The competition, held May 31 and June 1, hosts thousands of Class A, 2A and 3A music students across Texas, while the Class 4A and 5A schools are hosted at The University of Texas in Austin. University music professors are adjudicators for the contest.

Students at the Texas State Solo/Ensemble Contest sing or play from a prescribed list of music composed by master composers from the Baroque period through the Contemporary periods of history.

For vocalists, this means that many songs are in Italian, German, or French, as well as English. This makes the challenge even greater for the students not only having to sing in the correct style, but in the original language.

The students making a First Division rating on a Class I solo at the 2009 State Solo/Ensemble contest and earning gold medals were Lockie Breeding, senior; Courtney Burnett, senior; Aleah Eldridge, sophomore; Dakota Robertson, junior; Kolby Hogan, junior; and Taylor Cooper, freshman.

The students making a Second Division rating on a Class I solo at the 2009 State Solo/Ensemble contest and earning silver medals were Kimberly Loftis, freshman; Anthony Aiwohi, sophomore; Amber Cole, junior; Nikki Horton, senior; and Colten Brill, junior.

Singing in the madrigal were Amber Cole, Nikki Horton, Lockie Breeding, Courtney Burnett, Aleah Eldridge, Amy Ducote, Colten Brill, David Gee, Kolby Hogan and Dakota Robertson.

Director of the Harmony High School Choir is Lora Robison.
