Region 7 to Honor 42 Area Campuses Thursday

KILGORE —  Region 7 ESC’s federal programs department is celebrating 42 campuses from 26 districts in the Region 7 service area that received designations as high-performing and/or high-progress “Reward Schools” by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The celebration is taking place September 4 at 9 a.m. in the ESC’s Oak Room located at 1909 N. Longview St in Kilgore.

As a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) waiver granted by the U. S. Department of Education, the TEA has designated 457 top-performing and most improving Title I schools as “Reward Schools.” Reward Schools are classified either as “high performing” or “high-progress.” A high-performing Reward school is identified as a Title I school with distinctions based on reading and math performance on state assessments.

In addition, at the high school level, a high-performing Reward school will be a Title I school with the highest graduation rates.  A high-progress school is identified as a Title I school in the top 25% in annual improvement; and/or a school in the top 25% of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps based on system safeguards. Statewide, 171 campuses received designations as both high-performing and high-progress. Schools identified as Reward Schools have been successful in improving the quality of instruction, closing achievement gaps, increasing equity, and improving educational outcomes for all students.
