Texas Community Chorus, Children’s Chorus looking for singers for fall seasons
The East Texas Community Chorus is seeking singers for this fall’s concert season.
The community chorus is operated through KC’s Continuing Education Department and is open to high school-age through adult singers.
Rehearsals for the community chorus will be held on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Longview’s First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Fredonia St., beginning Aug. 25.
“The chorus is open to singers who can hold a harmony part in the context of a cappella music,” said Dr. Jim Taylor, director of the chorus and KC’s Director of Choral Activities. “Our rehearsals are marked by hard work, humor and good fellowship.”
Singers can join through the middle of September by registering at rehearsal. It is also possible to earn college credit by registering through KC.
“It is the mission of the East Texas Community Chorus to provide enthusiastic singers an opportunity to sing great choral music for large choruses ranging from light pieces to masterworks,” Taylor said. “It’s a place of inspiration where local music professionals can participate and get recharged.”
Kilgore College Children’s Chorus:
It’s also not too late for youth to join the Kilgore College Children’s Chorus.
The KCCC, also directed by Taylor, is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8 (boys’ voices unchanged) who can demonstrate they can carry a tune.
“The children’s chorus enables children of East Texas to fall in love with music through enthusiastic and artistically sensitive performances of choral music, a great way to introduce children to music,” Taylor said.
The KCCC will rehearse at Longview’s Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon St., on Thursdays from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 28.
Tuition is paid to KC through the Continuing Education Department.
