Green building techniques and energy-saving amenities will be featured in several homes in the Tyler Area Builders Associations 56th Annual Parade of Homes this June 6-14.

Various homes on the 30-home tour include such “green” features as bamboo flooring, tankless water heaters, Energy Star-rated appliances, natural lighting, low VOC paint, solar panels, LED lighting, high-efficiency windows and spray foam insulation. Several homes are also Energy Star Certified.

“‘Going green’ is more than just a trend for our builders,” said Kathey Comer, executive vice-president of TABA. “Using energy efficient techniques and materials is a way to build in money savings for East Texas homeowners.”

Builders like Rudy Wright of Wright-Way Remodeling & Construction began working on his Paradetm home with the goal of building a highly efficient house. His house includes solar panels and an LED lighting package.

More than 4,700 visitors toured the Parade last year.

The Parade will take place June 6-14. Hours will be: Saturdays 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sundays 2 – 6 p.m.; Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6 - 9 p.m.; and Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

The location of the 30 participating homes will remain secret until June 1 when tickets go on sale. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Grand Tour Sponsor is Sherwin-Williams Co. Rooftop Sponsors are: BancorpSouth; Citizens National Bank; Southside Bank; Texas Bank & Trust Company; Transit Mix Concrete & Materials Co., Inc.
