Theatre Northeast presents Tuesdays With Morrie

Theatre Northeast is proud to present the “life-affirming” comedy/drama Tuesdays With Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom. They will perform the play, based on the best-selling book by Mitch Albom, July 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and July 20 at 2:05 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College.

The play has been described as “An old man, a young man, and life’s greatest lesson.” Tuesdays With Morrie is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts out as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life. The play has been described by critics as: “Unforgettable! No matter how well you tell the story, the play makes it more vivid, more shattering, more humorous” (New York Magazine); “A touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with a generous dose of humor” (New York Daily News); and “I was unprepared for how moving and powerful Tuesdays With Morrie turned out to be…on the ground, the flowers of humanity grow” (New York Post).

The play features NTCC Distinguished Alumni Nick Derby of Mount Pleasant as Mitch Albom and NTCC Theatre Faculty Douglas Hoppock as Morrie Schwartz.

Tickets prices are Adults $10, Age 17 and under $7, NTCC Faculty, Staff and Sr. Citizens $5 and NTCC Students free with current ID.  Due to limited seating, reservations are requested by calling the Whatley Center Box Office 903-434-8181.
