Ore City gears up for July 4 festival

Ore City will hold its 42nd Annual Fourth of July Fun Festival on Friday, July 4.

The event is dedicated to and in honor of all veterans.

Grand Marshal is Frank Breazeale.

Daytime hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with evening activities scheduled from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The parade will line up at 8 a.m. at the High School North Gate, and will proceed downtown.

At 9:30 a.m. Mayor Glen Breazeale will extend a welcome to visitors at the Gospel Arbor. At 9:40 a.m. the “National Anthem” will be sung by Lynn Alexander, assisted by First Sgt. Paul Hamilton and the Lone Star Confederate Color Guard at the Gospel Arbor.

Gospel singing begins at 10 a.m., featuring God’s Store House Family Band.

An Antique Car Show also begins at 10 a.m. on Main St., next to Security State Bank, continuing until 12 p.m.

A Horseshoe Tournament begins at 10 a.m. in the Pavilion Area. (Call Janell at 903-790-5255 for information.)

Children’s games will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tony Jordan is Coordinator of Games.

A drawing for the Grand Prize of $500 will be held at the Gospel Arbor at 2 p.m. Tickets will be on sale all day. Hourly drawings for door prizes will also be held. You must sign up each hour at the Gospel Arbor.

Afternoon activities include Tater and the Clowns, Bouncing Houses and other children games.

Food concessions will be available (non-profit only) and a mini flea market next to the fire station will be open at 8 a.m. until closing at 11 p.m. Reserve a booth early.

Evening activities include the welcome and introduction of Grand Marshal Frank Breazeale, followed by the presentation of Ore City Fun Festival Queens at 8 p.m.

The Festival Band “Messin’ Around” will perform until 10 p.m., when a big Fireworks Show will be presented by Bubba DeBerry and the Ore City Fire Department.

The barn dance will resume at 10:30 a.m., continuing until midnight.
