FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF WINONA ONCE AGAIN HOST OF CITY-WIDE JULY 4TH EVENT

WINONA - For well over a decade, First Baptist Church of Winona has hosted a July 4th event open to the community. As the crowd has grown with each passing year, the fireworks show has grown as well, making it one of the largest shows in the region, and shown for hundreds of people.

The event will take another “step up” this year as new areas of entertainment will be made available. There will be softball games, “Cycle Heaven” motorcycle show, Street Stock Car and Truck Show, Live music, water slides for kids, and karaoke. Hot dogs, sodas and water will also be available with donation stations available.

The public is invited to share in the festivities, which will begin on Friday, July 4th at 7pm at the Winona High School Baseball & Softball complex.

Tony Watson, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Winona, says that this year’s event is likely the biggest ever produced. “When the church started this event some 15 or more years ago, it was basically a ‘church picnic’. Over the years God has brought some folks to our church who had a vision to make it bigger. Now we have a licensed fireworks operator in our church and he produces a show that rivals that of many big cities. By dark-thirty there are literally hundreds of people in lawn chairs, in the bleachers, or sitting on tailgates and car hoods lining the street.”

The church offers this event as a gift t the community. “People always ask if we charge for hot dogs or bottled water or admission to the event. We don’t charge anything, but this year we are setting up donation stations where people can give cash or write a check to help offset the cost. As you can imagine, with an event of this magnitude, the cost has risen each year. We are thankful that the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce has sponsored a large part of the fireworks this year, and several other local individuals and businesses have  given sponsorships as well,” added Watson.

Attractions such as the motorcycle show, the stock car show, and karaoke are open to anyone who would like to submit an entry and will be spaced throughout the event. “Cycle Heaven”, Kids Water Slides, Softball and Live Music will begin at 7pm. “Street Stock Cars” and Karaoke will begin at 8.

For more information, contact the church office at 903-877-3273 or e-mail Pastor Tony Watson at pastor@winonafbc.org. Any church or organization that would be willing to sponsor one of the water slides or activities would be given opportunity to publicize their organization. Contact the church for details.
