The Twentieth Century Club gathered at the home of incoming president Bridget Fowler on Thursday, June 6, to meet with Alexis Marie Williams, this year’s candidate for Yamobree queen. Lexie’s mother Irma Williams and her grandmother Barbara Williams are both long-standing members of the club, as was her great-grandmother Mattie Ruth Williams. Lexie thanked members for the opportunity to represent the club, promising to work hard and do her best to become the next Yamboree queen. In return, club members committed their support toward her success.

In keeping with the theme of the meeting, the dining table was draped with the train once used by many former queens. Jeweled collars and a crown were placed around a crystal bowl of sweet potatoes and a vase of large sunflowers nested in the folds of the train. Cleverly served from atop the grand piano, refreshments included decorated crown-shaped cookies, pound cake topped with mixed fruit compote, white trash pate’, nuts, and punch.

Members attending were Cal Arnold, Annette Breazeale, Margo Carter, Miki Clark, Sandy Dean, Rolinda Elms, Betty Finney, Janice Gage, Jean Hamil, Mary Nell Henry, Annette Herrmann, Cindy Murry, Betty Orms, Mary Ann Patterson, Bettye Lou Smith, Jeannie Smith, Raye White, Barbara Williams, Irma Williams, and hostess Bridget Fowler.
