Five Upshur County youth recently competed in the 2014 4-H District 5 Shotgun Competition at The Pines Gun Club in Lufkin.

The 4-H D5 Shotgun Competition showcases the skills and talents of youth from 22 East Texas counties.

Three Upshur 4-H Shotgunners brought home honors. For the second consecutive year in a row, Avery Painter won High Over All Senior 2 District 5 Shooter including 1st in Trap, 1st in Sporting Clays, 2nd in Skeet, and 2nd in 5-Stand.

Avery will go on to compete in July at the 4-H State Shotgun Competition at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio.

Additionally, Jacob Poorman (Intermediate) tied for 5th in Trap at the 4-H D5 Shotgun Competition and Dawson Jones (Intermediate) scored 6th in Trap.

Shotgunners Andrew Bass and Zac Poorman also competed.
