There had been 279 early votes in Gilmer’s wet-dry election, as of the end of early voting Tuesday.
Election day on the issue is today (Saturday).
Regular voting will be conducted 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Gilmer High School, 850 Buffalo St.
Two propositions are on the ballot:
1. “The legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only.”
2. “The legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only.”
Gilmer will not have a city council election, since the incumbents were all unopposed.
However, it will have the election on the two alcohol-related propositions. The city contracted with the school district to hold the election at the school.
There has apparently been no organized opposition to the proposals, not even from churches. One minister told The Mirror, “I haven’t really paid any attention to it. I guess no one else did, either.”
