The gunboat and cannons are ready for The Great Locomotive Chase and Naval Battle of Port Jefferson.

Come ride the train and experience the largest naval civil war re-enactment West of the Mississippi on May 3 and 4, 2014

The train departs from the Historic Jefferson Railway Depot, 400 E. Austin, Jefferson, TX 75657.  Don Rainey and Dennis Fisher tested the Virginia, “That Dam Boat”, in the waters last weekend to be sure she floated.

Then Don, Tom Moss, Jack Meyer, John Ramsey, Francene DePrez and the ladies from the Marion County Chamber of Commerce tested the cannons Friday night to be sure they were in working order.  The last step is to install the cannons on the gunboat and she is ready for action.

The public is welcome to the gunboat christening at the Jefferson Boat Ramp, Thursday, May 1, at 6:00 p.m.  The gunboat will be christened and launched, complete with a cannon demonstration, from the waters of the Big Cypress Bayou.
