Israeli Independence Day

Yom Ha’atzmaut

On Sunday May 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM, Congregation Ahavath Achim will celebrate the 66th birthday of the State of Israel with a special viewing of the movie “Israel – The Royal Tour”.

As seen on Public Television, this nonstop, groundbreaking adventure takes us on a historic journey throughout Israel.  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Peter Greenberg, a multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist, explore Israel as we’ve never seen it before—through the eyes of its leader.

On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel formally declared its independence.  On May 15, the new State of Israel, with no army, no navy, and no air force, was attacked by the surrounding Arab States.  From May 1948 until July 1949, the fledgling Jewish State waged what seemed to be a war for survival against impossible odds.  The small Jewish nation was out-manned, out-gunned, and nearly friendless, but somehow it was able to slowly drive back the Arab armies, overcoming the impossible odds and breaking the siege on the roads.

In addition to the video tour we will be treated with a wealth of information on the remarkable technological and ecological advances this wonderful land has contributed to the world.

The program is free and open to the public.  Date:  Sunday, May, 4, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.  Place: Congregation Ahavath Achim, 3501 S. Donnybrook, Tyler, Texas.

If you would like more information about this event, please call Dr. Ron Beals (903.561.6274); Rabbi Alan Learner or Dee Wapner, Congregation Ahavath Achim (903.561.4284)
