A HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE
The Flame of Resistance - Spread the Light!
An Interfaith Remembrance
In commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), an interfaith Holocaust remembrance program, “The Flame of Resistance - Spread the Light” will be presented on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Congregation Ahavath Achim, 3501 S. Donnybrook, Tyler, Texas. The program is designed to remember and honor victims and survivors of the Holocaust--the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators from 1933 to 1945.
Guest speakers include a representative for the City of Tyler; Mrs. Ginger Brandt, Director of Family Ministries, First Christian Church; Rob Mason, Interim Minister of Youth, First Christian Church; Kevin Roper, Rose Heights Church; Michael E. Eidenmuller, Ph.D., Professor, The University of Texas at Tyler; Rabbi Alan Learner, Congregation Ahavath Achim; Ronald Beals, M.D., and Jamia Wilson. A proclamation, issued by Mayor Barbara Bass, declaring April 27— May 3, 2014 as the Days of Remembrance in memory of the victims, survivors and rescuers of the Holocaust will be read by the City of Tyler representative.
Many people have perceived that most of the Holocaust victims passively went to their demise; however, we will present biographical sketches of some of those who worked and fought valiantly for survival during those terrible events. Their efforts were often instrumental in helping to bring the Nazi regime down and in Spreading the Flame of Resistance against man’s inhumanity to man. We will provide additional information about how everyone can take a stand against injustice in the world today.
The commemoration program is free and open to the public. Date: Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Place: Congregation Ahavath Achim, 3501 S. Donnybrook, Tyler, Texas.
