RITCHIE VALENS, LEFT, Mayberry’s Barney Fife and Buddy Holly performed before a large audience Saturday night at the Gilmer Civic Center. Opening performance was by the area group “Shake, Rattle & Roll” (seen in Vimeo screenshot next photo). Valens was portrayed by Sting Ray Anthony, who has been performing as Valens since he was a young man. His performance is endorsed by the Ritchie Valens Foundation. Kenny James performed dual roles as Buddy Holly and Barney Fife. “Barney Fife” made it “perfectly clear” that he was the security for the night. Music was furnished by “Fever, The Ultimate Tribute Band.” Both Anthony and James have performed at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Mo., and James is known as the No. 1 Buddy Holly impersonator in Las Vegas, Nev.
