Says Paxton Most Aligned with the Values of District 7

Longview – Today Representative David Simpson (R-Longview) announced his enthusiastic support of Senator Ken Paxton, the conservative candidate for Texas Attorney General.

“For our next Attorney General, we need the type of thoughtful, steady leadership that Ken Paxton has consistently demonstrated during his time in the Legislature. Ken understands the legitimate, but limited, role of government and will fight for justice for all. While serving with Ken in the Legislature, I saw him take principled stands time and time again. I am grateful to stand with Ken Paxton in the fight to restrict Washington's overreach and defend the liberties of every Texan,” said Simpson Thursday.

Simpson continued, “Unlike many politicians who find their direction using a political wind vane, Paxton finds his direction by the ‘true north’ of limited government and liberty. Having worked with him in the Legislature, I can say that in this race Ken Paxton aligns best with the strong conservative, liberty-minded values of District 7.”

In response, Paxton said, “Rep. Simpson is known as a man of integrity who stands by his principles and defends the values of his district. He has been a leader in the fight to restrict intrusive government in Austin and I am proud to have him on my team as we fight to defend Texas against the intrusions of Washington and the Obama Administration.”

In the Primary, Senator Paxton led the field with double digits, coming within 6 points of winning outright. Despite being outspent more than 2-to-1, Paxton’s grassroots support across the state has placed him in a leadership position in the race. Additionally, Senator Paxton won 19 of the top 20 counties in Texas, and won 51 of the top 75 counties representing approximately 85% of the GOP vote.

Paxton has been endorsed by 76 current and former State Republican Executive Committee Members, 5 current and former National Republican Executive Committee Members, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Texas Right to Life, Young Conservatives of Texas, Concerned Women of America LAC, Texas Home School Coalition PAC, 26 State Representatives, Senators Donna Campbell and Brian Birdwell, over 100 Tea Party leaders and activists, and many prominent conservative grassroots and Republican leaders across the state.

Simpson was originally elected in 2010, running on a platform of upholding his oath to the Constitution and defending our East Texas conservative values. House District 7 is comprised of Gregg and Upshur Counties.
