Three politically-related events are planned in or near Gilmer within the next week.

Candidates for various offices in the March 4 Republican primary are scheduled to address a public meeting of the Upshur County Republican Executive Committee Saturday afternoon at the Gilmer Country Club.

The committee will meet at 3:30 with candidate speaking expected to begin about 4:30, said county GOP Chairman Cynthia Ridgeway.

All GOP candidates for county office are invited to speak. Others scheduled to appear include Robert Talton, running for Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court; Dwayne Stovall, candidate for U.S. Senate; and Bryan Slaton, representing Harvey Hildebran, candidate for State Comptroller, said Mrs. Ridgeway.

The meeting is open to the public, and all attendees may dine at their own expense.

Republican State Rep. David Simpson of Longview will address the monthly meeting of the Upshur County Libertarian Party at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 11) at La Finca Mexican Restaurant, one hour before a candidate forum at the First United Methodist Church.

The Upshur County Conservative Coalition is sponsoring the forum for any candidate of any party who is seeking an office. The office-seekers will be questioned by a panel of Republican Joe Dodd, county Democratic Party Chairman Dan Miles Jr., and county Libertarian Chairman Vance Lowry, said Mrs. Ridgeway, who is secretary of the coalition.

The Libertarian meeting, at which attendees may dine at their own expense, and the forum are open to the public.
