Northern Seminary President Dr. Alistair Brown To Speak at ETBU Fall Commencement on Dec. 14th
MARSHALL, Texas (12/07/13) – East Texas Baptist University will hold Fall Commencement on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center. Presiding will be ETBU President Dr. Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver with 54 students receiving degrees. Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lawrence Ressler, assisted by academic deans, will present the graduating class.
The charge to the graduates will be delivered by Dr. Alistair Brown, president of Northern Seminary in Lombard, Illinois since 2008. Under his gifted leadership, the seminary remains strongly evangelical and visionary
, and has experienced noteworthy life and growth.
Dr. Brown is an ordained Baptist pastor from the United Kingdom. His early career was in journalism with ‘The Scotsman,’ but he committed his life to Christ at 18 and soon felt called to a life of Christian service.
Originally from Edinburgh, Dr. Brown studied at the University of Edinburgh and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with merit and a Bachelor of Divinity degree with Honors. He went on to earn a PhD with a dissertation examining metaphors of baptism in the Pauline literature. He also earned an MBA from The Open University.Dr. Brown was ordained in 1981 and pastored two churches in Scotland. One was a new church plant and the other a 100-year-old city center church. Both saw extensive growth during those years. In 1996, Dr. Brown was appointed General Director of the Baptist Missionary Society, founded in 1792 by William Carey, and served at its headquarters in Oxfordshire, England.
