Free H2S Safety, 10-Hour OSHA General Industry classes set for December

 

Seats are available for two free safety classes that will be offered in December by Kilgore College. 

 

Classes will be held in the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center in Kilgore, 220 N. Henderson Blvd.

 

“H2S Safety” is set for 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Tuesday through Wednesday, Dec. 3-4.

 

“10-hour OSHA General Industry” is set for 5:30 to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 10-12.

 

The H2S Safety Certification class covers OSHA Regulations and API recommended practices. 

 

Topics will include common names, sources of H2S, characteristics, effects, health problems and symptoms resulting from exposure, concentration levels and H2S detection methods.

 

"H2S Awareness" cards will be issued.

 

The 10-Hour OSHA General Industry class covers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations which apply to general industry and key compliance standards. 

 

Topics will include citations and penalties, walking and working surfaces, means of egress and fire protection. 

 

Also covered will be electrical hazards, flammable and combustible liquids, personal protective equipment and machine guarding. 

 

Completing OSHA’s required topics are hazardous communication, industrial hygiene, blood borne pathogens and health and safety programs. 

 

Students will receive OSHA cards and a free copy of “1910 OSHA Standards for General Industry.”

 

Advance registration for the 10-hour OSHA General Industry class is required no later than Friday, Dec. 6, but the class is free including the OSHA cards and textbook. 

 

Instructor for both courses will be Floyd Rumbaugh, an authorized OSHA H2S instructor.
